Better legal protection for women who are breastfeeding and working.

In many European countries, women are entitled to paid breastfeeding breaks and access to suitable facilities for breastfeeding or expressing milk when they return to work.

In the UK, it is left to individual women to negotiate paid breastfeeding breaks with their employer.  The Health and Safety Executive recommends that employers provide facilities for employees to breastfeed or express milk but we know that many employers are not following this recommendation.

We think there should be better legal protection for women who are breastfeeding and working.

Have you encountered any difficulties at work?  Help campaign for improvements in women's rights at work by telling us your story.  We won't disclose your name or any other identifying information.

For information about your rights to continue breastfeeding on your return to work, see our information sheet.
