challenging inequality : promoting wellbeing

There are complex rules governing entitlement to free NHS care for women and men from abroad.

Information sheet on entitlement to care
NHS maternity care is provided free of charge to women who are considered to be ‘ordinarily resident’ in the UK.  If you are not ‘ordinarily resident’ you may be asked to pay for your care, but you cannot be refused care if you cannot pay.  It is very important for your health and your baby’s health that you attend for maternity care even if you are unable to pay. This information sheet provides an outline of your rights, links to Department of Health guidance and a list of useful contacts.  It reflects the new regulations and guidance which came into force in August 2011.  It covers England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
