Your maternity rights vary according to your immigration status and this can be very confusing. These information sheets outline your entitlements to NHS maternity care, benefits, tax credits and employment rights according to your status.  The information sheet, Which information sheet to use, explains the different forms of immigration status.

Information sheets for:

EU/EEA nationals:
Women who are nationals of the EU, EEA or Switzerland, including the A8 and A2 countries of Eastern Europe.  Women who are family members of EU, EEA or Swiss nationals.

Download 'EU, EEA and Swiss nationals (including A8 and A2)'

'No recourse to public funds':
Women who have a current visa which has the condition 'no recourse to public funds'.  This covers many visas, including spouse visa, working visa and student visa.

Download 'No recourse to public funds'

Undocumented migrants:
Women who have 'undocumented' immigration status, including women who have overstayed their visa, who have been unable to renew their visa, who entered the country without a visa or who were trafficked into the UK.

Download 'Undocumented migrants'

Indefinite leave:
Women who have indefinite leave to remain, right of abode or UK citizenship.

Download 'Indefinite leave to remain, right of abode and UK citizenship'

Trafficked women
Women who have been trafficked into the UK

Download 'Trafficked women'
