Maternity Action delivers a
training course for midwives to improve maternity care for refugees and asylum seekers. We provide resources to support midwives working with refugees and asylum seekers, including useful contacts, reading lists and model letters.
Maternity Action provides training on rights and benefits, including an introductory half day course, 'Maternity and parental rights at work'.
Information and advice
You are welcome to download, copy and distribute our information
sheets to your clients. You are also welcome to link to our resources from your website. You and your clients
are welcome to contact our advice line.
We have information sheets on employment rights and benefits. We have information on the
right to breastfeed on return to work and the right to breastfeed in public places.
We have a series of information
sheets on the rights of pregnant women and new parents who are asylum seekers, refugees or refused asylum seekers.
We also have information on the rights of migrants, including EU nationals, women with 'no recourse to public funds' and women are
'undocumented' migrants.
We have produced an information sheet on entitlement to free NHS maternity care which provides an accessible explanation of the NHS rules on charging for maternity care. The National
Institute of Clinical Excellence recommends this information sheet in its guidance on Pregnancy and Complex Social Factors.
Policy, Research and campaigns
We research the issues that impact on the lives of pregnant women, new mothers
and their families, and we actively participate in the policy development process. We produce policy papers and consultation responses. We campaign on the issues facing pregnant women and new parents, particularly those who are disadvantaged.
