Maternity Action was established in 2008 and is the UK’s leading charity committed to ending inequality and improving the health and well-being of pregnant women, partners and young children – from conception through to the child’s early years.
We won’t give up until every pregnant woman, new mother and father and their families are treated fairly and have their rights respected.
Trade Union affiliation
Maternity Action campaigns at UK and European level to protect and improve maternity rights at work. We challenge attempts by the UK Government to reduce the maternity rights of different groups of workers. We actively support improvements to the EU Pregnant Workers Directive, which underpins maternity rights in the UK.
Maternity Action invites Trade Unions to join the affiliation programme.
Our work is partly supported by our funders. We are grateful to:
- Big Lottery Fund Awards for All
- Department of Health
- Comic Relief
- Eleanor Rathbone Charitable Trust
- Trust for London
We also rely on the support from individuals to be able to carry out the vital work improving the lives of thousands of pregnant women, mothers, fathers and young families. Find out here [link to donate] how you can support us.
Maternity Action is one of six members of the Women’s Health and Equality Consortium (WHEC) which is a Department of Health Strategic Partner.
Maternity Action raises the issues of concern to pregnant women and new mothers in the media. For recent media citations refer to our media page.
